As the police of the state of Tyrol announced, the woman had fallen about 80 meters to her death during a hike.
First search unsuccessful The 58-year-old from the Saale-Holzland district had taken a holiday in Going am Wilden Kaiser. On Tuesday, she had set off on a mountain tour. After relatives could no longer reach the woman, they alerted the police on Wednesday. Mountain rescuers, alpine police and two helicopters came out, but the search was initially unsuccessful.
On Thursday, another flight was launched to search for ascent routes to the Ellmauer Halt, an approximately 2,300-metre-high summit. Finally, a lifeless person was spotted at almost 2,000 meters above sea level. The body was recovered and identified with a rope. Investigators assume that the woman had strayed from a marked but challenging via ferrata.
The 58-year-old crashed over steep rocky terrain and was fatally injured, police said. MDR dpa/(caf)
