The federal and state governments have agreed on a fuel price cap and a tank discount because of the high fuel prices. Accordingly, the federal government will reduce the energy tax on petrol and diesel by 14 cents from 1 October to the end of 2026. Together with sales tax, this results in a reduction of 17 cents per litre for fuels.
In addition, a temporary fuel price cap should be introduced as soon as possible, following the example of Luxembourg or Belgium, at the latest by 1 January 2027.
