In the state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the AfD won 38.2 percent of the vote and won ahead of the SPD with 35.5 percent. In Berlin, the Left Party is clearly in first place ahead of the CDU with 25.6 percent.

In the state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the AfD has become the strongest force. According to the preliminary final result, it lands at 38.2 percent, the previously ruling SPD at 35.5 percent. The CDU lands at 4.9 percent and is therefore no longer represented in the state parliament. The Greens come to 5.7 percent, the Left Party to 6.5 percent. The coalition Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has therefore missed the entry into the state parliament with 4.8 percent.

So far, the Social Democrats have ruled with Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with the Left Party; according to the preliminary final result, it would no longer be enough to continue this government.

The AfD was able to make significant gains in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern compared to the last state election five years ago.

The Left Party wins the most votes in the Berlin Senate election

In Berlin, the left got the most votes according to the extrapolation (11:02 p.m.). At 25.5 percent, the party is well ahead of the CDU, which therefore won 18.9 percent. The AfD came in third place with 16.1 percent. Behind them are the Greens (14.3 percent), the SPD (12.1) and the BSW (4.8), which will not make it into the Senate in Berlin either.

Shortly after the polling stations have closed, it is not yet possible to say which party will end up as the Governing Mayor. The Left Party and the CDU would need two coalition partners each - presumably the Greens and the SPD - to enter the Red Town Hall. Due to the fact that the BSW cannot enter the Senate, a coalition of the CDU, Greens and SPD would also be mathematically possible. Difficult exploratory talks and coalition negotiations are expected.
