It had been hinted, now it is fixed: Sandro Wagner is the new coach of second division football club Hannover 96. The club confirmed this on Saturday evening. Previously, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Martin Kind, had already done this at the request of the SID.

"We're through," the 82-year-old had already said in the afternoon. In the evening, Hannover 96 announced that former national team player and assistant to former national coach Julian Nagelsmann would take over the team. “Sandro is a guy who works meticulously and burns for the task. The exchange went into depth accordingly quickly, so that we have very clearly come to the conclusion that Sandro is the right man for us, "said Jonas Boldt, Managing Director Sport.

Hannover 96 is a club with power.

Wagner receives a contract until 30 June 2028. He will conduct his first training on Monday. “Of course, I thought carefully about what my next step in football should be. Even after the first discussions with those responsible, I had the feeling that at 96 it really fits very well. I am totally looking forward to the task because I am convinced that with the right energy we can move and achieve a lot of good things here, "said the 38-year-old.

Successor of Christian Titz

Wagner succeeds Christian Titz, whom the second division team released last Monday. He is supposed to lead the North Germans back into the race for promotion. On Sunday, 96 will receive VfL Bochum (1.30 pm, in the NDR Livecenter), still with U23 coach Lars Barlemann on the sidelines.

2nd league: That's why Sandro Wagner is the best coach solution for Hannover 96

After the end of his professional career, Wagner began his coaching career at SpVgg Unterhaching, with the club he made it to the 3rd league in 2023. He then began his apprenticeship as assistant coach of former national coach Nagelsmann. Most recently, Wagner was head coach of FC Augsburg - but his tenure there ended after only twelve games.

After five days of play, Hannover has only four points on its books and has thus far fallen well short of expectations - Wagner is now set to turn things around.
