The "wolfesses" are not effective enough at the front in Kraichgau - and too carefree at the back. The table is thus lost.

The women of VfL Wolfsburg conceded their first defeat of the season in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. The "Wölfinnen" lost 1:2 (0:1) to TSG Hoffenheim. The table is thus lost.

Against the previously pointless Kraichgau women, the team of coach Stephan Lerch scored only a single goal despite a multitude of best opportunities. The substitute Anny Kerim-Lindland scored 1:1 (66th) in the meantime.
Since the VfL was not only negligent with its chances at the front, but also acted too carelessly defensively at times, Chiara Hahn put together a double pack (25th and 68th) and thus ensured the first victory of the Hoffenheim women this season. The Wolfsburg women lost the lead in the table as a result of the defeat, as Eintracht Frankfurt won in the parallel game in Mainz (3:2).
We just shouldn't have lost this game.
VfL trainer Stephan Lerch
“I'm seething because we just shouldn't have lost this game given the course of the game and our odds,” Lerch said. "We basically had good access, put a lot of pressure on ourselves and worked out possibilities. At the same time, we did not defend TSG's shifting moments well enough."
The Bundesliga will be suspended next weekend, with the first round of the DFB Cup pending. On Sunday (27 September, 2 pm, in the NDR Livecenter), the "Wölfinnen" will go to second division club SC Sand.

Peddemors too imprecise, tap very precise
After 20 minutes, the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion could have been a good 3:1 for the guests from Wolfsburg. But first Hoffenheim's Laia Martret failed from a short distance against the brilliantly responsive VfL goalkeeper Stina Johannes (2nd), then Janina Minge (4th) and Ella Peddemors (7th and 20th) moved to Wolfsburg. Especially Peddemors' second opportunity was huge, from eight meters she chased the ball free-standing but over the bar.
The people of Lower Saxony had more shares in the game and the better playing facilities, but the lack of precision in the end paid off. Hahn pulled from the left side into the middle and hit the left corner with a flat shot. Several other players at the same time obscured the view of Johannes, who was able to react too late (25.).

Spin-off Women's Bundesliga: "Nothing achieved yet" warns Wolfsburg
The spin-off of the Women's Bundesliga from the DFB marks a historic moment. For VfL director Vanessa Bernauer, however, "the actual work" is only just beginning.
VfL unhappy in front, Johannes rescues in the back
The Lerch team immediately looked for the way forward again and came up with two good chances until the break. The hapless Peddemors, however, chased the ball this time from the edge of the penalty area at a right angle (27th) - and Cora Zicai did not hit the ball after a nice entry from the right two meters in front of the box (37th).
The leadership of the Kraichgau women at halftime was okay at the latest due to the last minutes before the break, because they were simply more determined. Johannes parried the shots of Janna Grimm (44th) and Lisann Kaut (45th +2nd).
Kerim-Lindland comes - and meets
Lerch brought Lena Lattwein to the second half - and she hit it directly. However, her goal did not count because, in the opinion of referee Sina Dikmann (Dortmund), TSG keeper Laura Johanna Dick was unfairly tackled on the previous cross (48th). Lattwein, however, remained dangerous, but her header did not fly into the gate shortly afterwards, but onto it (53rd). The hosts also had a good degree from Marie Steiner (61st).
However, the pressure from the Wolfsburg women finally paid off. The Kerim-Lindland, who had recently been substituted, stood completely free from the right side on a flank and scored a worthwhile 1:1 volley shot (66th).

Rooster punishes negligent "she-wolfs"
However, the pleasure of the "wolfesses" lasted only briefly, because two minutes later they defended just as airily in the back as the TSG had previously done on Kerim-Lindland's goal. Hahn switched the fastest in the middle with a flat input and directed the ball into the mesh 2:1 for the hosts (68th).
The VfL ran furiously, but Kerim-Lindland initially did not bring enough pressure behind her shot (74th) and failed just as much due to the shiny Dick (78th) as Lattwein shortly before (75th). And since Peddemors only chased the ball from three metres up (85th) and over the bar with a free kick in stoppage time (90th +3), the first VfL defeat this season was decided a little later.
