After his resignation as leader of the parliamentary group, Jens Spahn now sits on the Committee on Budgets. But according to ARD information, there is displeasure in the Union - about a holiday from Spahn during a committee meeting. By Philip Kuntschner, Moritz Rödle On Friday afternoon, the Budget Working Group of the CDU/CSU Group will meet for an extraordinary meeting. It's about the staff: the deputies are talking about Jens Spahn.
The former leader of the parliamentary group had caused a stir again this week. While his colleagues in Berlin were working as parliamentarians in committees and plenary sessions, there were photos of Spahn with baby at the airport in Sardinia. An article in the Bild newspaper about this was deleted after a short time. The official reason given by the publisher: The photo was taken in a private setting.
Credibility further damaged The report, however, reached colleagues in Berlin, apparently during a meeting of the Committee on Budgets, of which Spahn has been a member for a short time. It was already the second appointment that Spahn did not attend. On this Wednesday, the CDU politician justified his absence with an illness of his child, according to the committee. For the deputies of his group, the photo apparently makes the barrel overflow.
Many of them see his credibility further damaged. In the special meeting on Friday afternoon, therefore, the future handling of Spahn was discussed. According to information from the ARD capital studio, a majority of MEPs argued in favour of removing Spahn from the influential committee. Special treatment for Spahn?
The fact that Spahn is still allowed to stay for the time being is apparently due to his successor in the office of parliamentary group chairman. Ex-chancellor's office chief Thorsten Frei wants to grant Spahn a grace period. He may therefore initially remain a member of the committee until December. However, he was "on probation".
In other words: Spahn can no longer afford to slip up. This approach is causing displeasure among several Union MPs with whom the ARD Capital Studio was able to speak. You see special treatment in the grace period. The former leader of the parliamentary group was apparently "allowed to do anything".
It goes on to say that "careerists" such as Spahn are detrimental to the Union's nationwide reputation.
