Federal Prosecutor's Office: Indictment against alleged Russian spy

She is said to have built up a pro-Russian network in Berlin and provided information on German defence policy to the Kremlin: Now the Federal Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against the alleged Russian spy. The Federal Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against a suspected Russian spy at the Berlin Court of Appeal. The top German prosecutor accuses the woman of having provided information to an intelligence officer in the Russian embassy. She will therefore be charged with secret service agent activity.

The German-Ukrainian was arrested in January and has been in custody ever since. The alleged agent is said to have been in contact with the intelligence officer since October 2023 at the latest, according to the accusation of the Federal Prosecutor's Office. "Over the years, the accused provided him with numerous references to high-profile events and ensured that he was able to visit them - sometimes under a false name," according to a statement from the Federal Prosecutor's Office. “This should allow him to build his own network for intelligence purposes." The accused also tried to "attract persons from the Federal Ministry of Defence as well as from the arms industry for their purposes".

On behalf of the intelligence officer, she sought information on German defence policy and the arms industry, especially against the background of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. The State Security Senate of the Berlin Court of Appeal must now decide whether and when the trial will take place. Previous statements by the woman apparently indicate that she acted out of conviction. According to the authority, the proceedings of the Federal Prosecutor's Office are based on findings of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and the Federal Office for Military Counterintelligence.
