The Eagles Mannheim have won their home game in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) against the Krefeld Penguins 4:1 (0:0, 2:1, 2:0). Three days after 3:5 in Nuremberg, the eagles started in goal with Maximilian Franzreb instead of Jake Hildebrand. There was a lot of steam in it: The climber from Krefeld settled directly in the Mannheim third and made pressure.

The hosts countered via Nicolas Mattinen, but the last pass did not arrive. It remained fast-paced: Krefeld's Davis Vandane tested Franzreb, Mannheim's Leon Gawanke was free to shoot on the left, but keeper Juha Jatkola was also attentive. The Mannheimers' actions now became more compelling, while Krefeld lurked for counterattacks. Kris Bennett had the best chance so far, but the Canadian missed the penguins' goal. Just under two minutes before the end of the first period, after a stick check from Jérémie Poirier, the climber came to the first outnumbering situation of the game, but the eagles survived the phase unscathed.

Brown Meets for Leadership

The first opportunity in the second section belonged to the Mannheimers. John Gilmour moved from the left to the middle and slid the puck onto the goal. Jatkola could only bounce, but at Maximilian Heim's follow-up, the keeper was on the post. In the 24th minute, Krefeld's Mathew Santos brought the puck forward and almost provoked an own goal. Mattinen was fined for hooking in the scene, and the penguins played with it for the second time in a row. The two minutes then got chaotic: Krefeld put on the pressure, Mannheim countered and then suddenly they played on an equal footing because the guests had had one player too many on the ice.

When Mattinen returned, the eagles were outnumbered for the first time. But coach Dallas Eakins' team was also unable to take advantage of the advantage for the time being. seconds after Krefeld's Philip Gogulla returned to the ice, the eagles struck. Patrick Brown was crossed by Brooks Macek and brought the puck down in the left corner (27th minute).

Krefeld was now struggling in the offensive, coming to no conclusion in the first ten minutes. The eagles, on the other hand, became stronger. Jatkola had to use his skills several times to prevent the second goal. On the other side, Santos finished, Franzreb fended off the puck upwards, and there was a savage poke. With a bit of luck, the eagles prevented the balance.
